What You Need to Start Raising Coturnix Quail

Secure Housing

Choose an enclosure designed for quail, with protection from predators, good ventilation, and easy access for feeding, watering, and cleaning.

Feed and Fresh Water

Have feed appropriate for your birds’ age and purpose, along with feeders and waterers they can comfortably reach. Keep clean water available every day.

A Brooder for Chicks

Starting with chicks? Prepare a dry, draft-free brooder with a suitable heat source and enough room for chicks to move away from the warmth. Set it up before hatch day or pickup.

A Plan for Your Flock

Are you raising quail for eating eggs, dogfood, meat, or breeding? Your goal helps determine how many birds to start with and how to organize their housing. You don’t need males for hens to lay eating eggs.
