Outreach and Education

Today we had a high school Ornithology class from Webb School come out to see live birds. They had been studying feather structure. I showed them ducks, soft feathered Cochins, feather sexable quail and large heritage turkeys. We talked about how I use genetics from Biology that I swore I would never use in my life! Punnet squares. Recessive gens and auto sexing. While I heard one student say it was the best field trip ever, it was super interesting to me to hear how much I have learned thru raising the birds and studying them. Life is always about moving forward and enjoying the journey. I encourage everyone to help teach the kids real skills beyond Taylor Swift.
