Frequently Asked Questions
-
Our mature Coturnix quail are shipped at 5–8 weeks of age. At this age, they are fully feathered, sexed, and ready to transition into your covey after a proper quarantine period.
-
Yes. All hens and roosters are accurately sexed before shipping. Feather-sexable varieties are identified by plumage, while other varieties are sexed using the appropriate methods for that color.
-
Purchasing mature birds allows you to skip incubation, brooding, and the uncertainty of raising straight-run chicks. You'll receive healthy, sexed birds that are ready to become part of your flock.
-
Live birds are shipped via USPS Priority Mail Express in approved live bird shipping boxes. Each shipment includes GroGel® and feed, and we deliver the birds to the post office shortly before the Express truck departs to minimize travel time.
-
Each approved shipping box safely holds 4–6 mature birds. Orders exceeding six birds will require additional shipping boxes.
-
Coturnix quail are social birds that travel better in small groups. Requiring a minimum of four birds helps them stay calmer and more comfortable during transit.
-
Yes. You may order specific available varieties, including Pharaoh, Egyptian, Fee, and Jumbo White. If color isn't important, our Jenn's Choice option allows Jenn to select healthy hens from the birds available at the time your order is prepared.

Most hens begin laying between 6 and 8 weeks of age, although the exact timing depends on their age at shipment, nutrition, lighting, and how quickly they settle into their new environment.
-
Open the box as soon as possible. Offer fresh water and feed immediately, then place the birds in a clean, secure enclosure. We recommend quarantining all new birds before introducing them to your existing covey to help protect the health of both groups.
-
We take every precaution to ensure your birds arrive safely by using approved shipping boxes, providing hydration and feed, and timing shipments carefully. If there is ever an issue with your shipment, please contact us immediately so we can work toward a resolution.
-
Unfortunately, no. While we carefully schedule when your birds are shipped, USPS does not guarantee a specific delivery day or time for live bird shipments.
If you need your birds delivered around a vacation, event, or other scheduling conflict, please let us know in the notes at checkout. We'll do our best to select a shipping date that works with your schedule, but we cannot guarantee the exact day USPS will deliver your package.
USPS may contact you when your birds arrive so they can be picked up promptly at your local post office. Because procedures vary by location, we recommend watching your tracking information closely and contacting your local post office if you have any questions about pickup.
