The Genetics Behind Bryant's Roost Barred Rock Quail
The Bryant's Roost Barred Rock Quail is the result of two separate genetic mutations working together.
The Fee mutation is an autosomal incomplete dominant dilution gene that softens the red pigmentation, creating beautiful shades of gray, and white. The Sparkly mutation is a separate autosomal incomplete dominant pattern modifier that increases black feather patterning and barring.
When combined, these two mutations produce the distinctive Grey-barred appearance that many breeders refer to as Sparkly Fee.
Unlike many breeding projects where multiple color outcomes are expected, our Bryant's Roost breeding pens are Sparkly Fee × Sparkly Fee, producing chicks that hatch true to the Barred Rock line.
