Our Egyptian line originated from a recessive gene discovered within our original Pharaoh breeding stock. Rather than purchasing Egyptian birds from multiple sources, we isolated the gene and spent more than six years developing a dedicated Egyptian breeding line while simultaneously breeding the Egyptian gene out of our Pharaoh line.

The primary difference is feather color. Both are Japanese Coturnix quail and share similar care requirements, growth rates, and management. At Bryant's Roost, however, our Egyptian and Pharaoh birds have been selectively bred as separate lines for many years, allowing each breeding program to develop its own consistency.

Randomly mixing unrelated bloodlines can reduce predictability and introduce traits that may not appear for several generations. We believe intentional selection over multiple generations is the best way to develop a consistent breeding line.
